What are CE Marking and EN 1090 Certification?
In 2011 the European Construction Products Directive (ECPD) came into force placing requirements on all designers, manufacturers and distributors of construction products that are sold in the EU to ensure they meet minimum performance standards and confirm this by affixing a CE Mark to them. EN 1090-1 is the standard that specifies these requirements for structural steel and aluminium components used in construction products and how they should be CE Marked.
What are the benefits of EN 1090 Certification and CE Marking?
Companies supplying structural steel and aluminium components in the EU after 1st July 2014 must be certified to EN 1090-1 and implement CE Marking for their products in order to comply with the ECPD. It will be an offence to supply products after this date unless it conforms to this standard and carries a legitimate CE Mark and Trading Standards will be empowered to force companies to withdraw and recall products that do not comply.
